Different Types of Wood Flooring

6th August 2013

So if you’re looking for a beautiful new floor for your home, what are the different types of wood flooring and how do you choose which one to go for?

When choosing a floor we have many options to select from here at First Floors. It really comes down to personal taste. At First Floors in Giffnock, we will assist you in any way we can in picking your perfect floor. Our showroom is designed to present the different types of wood flooring in a concise way. Each board is about 2.5 metres in length by 0.5. This will give you a better perspective of the product and is much better than the small samples offered elsewhere. We believe here at First Floors, that the customer really does come first and we promise to do our best in helping you to choose the perfect floor for you. When selecting a hardwood or solid wood floor, we have a fabulous choice. Each wood has its own unique graining and colour. Let us start with the natural beauty of Oak. Oak is a wonderful and practical wood. The grain is gorgeous and the natural Oak is a brilliant choice as it will just about match anything. This is due to it being a neutral colour. There are a few finishes with this product. The brushed and oiled is extremely popular. The brushing brings out the natural grain of the wood and oil is sumptuous. This look will give real depth and a natural beauty to your floor. It is also very easy to maintain. Each plank is given  about 5 coats of a UV oil so it will not fade in the sun! If this is not the look you are wanting you could go for a lacquered finish. The lacquer will literally fill in the grain and give you a brilliant smooth surface to your floor. It really is a gorgeous. There are many different types of wood flooring to choose from – also known as species. So please pop into our showroom and we will be more than happy to show you around all of our beautiful samples and explain the different types of wood flooring available. One particular stunning wood is our Blacknut. This comes in a solid wood and an engineered board. It is similar to Walnut with its brown tones, but the sap is much more contrasting. This leads to a look that is really amazing and very luxurious. It has a lacquered surface, which makes it great for cleaning. This wood will give any home a fabulous look and really is a bit different. We would be more that pleased to bring any samples to your home for you to look at. We look forward to meeting you in our showroom for a chat and a coffee.

Fantastic service. David gave me great advice on which flooring would be most suitable for my business premises. Within the week Steven came to fit the flooring and, as promised, was in and out in a day. Can’t recommend this local Company enough. Anna Smylie ZuZu Giffnock.

We recently purchased engineered oak flooring and carpets from First Floors. The customer service from David and team was exceptional. We had just moved home from overseas and bought a house with no floors so we did not have access to allow First Floors to measure. Theye allowed us to use our own measurements as we wanted the floors laid ASAP once we had the keys. The floor is beautiful and laid very professionally (thanks Steven). The carpets are also lovely and exactly what I wanted. The only thing I would change about the experience would be to have First Floors assess the house in advance. We have fire doors which were a problem the day the carpets were laid. This was not the issue of First Floors and it was resolved quickly. Thanks again David, we would highly recommend First Floors to anyone.

Another Great Job Done!!
Just had our third floor project in seven years completed by First Floors once again.
Great service from David and his showroom team from assisting in the selection of materials through to arranging the installation. Chris and his team worked tidily and efficiently on the hardwood flooring with great attention to detail. Gordon who fitted the stair carpet was very professional in his work and was able to resolve some problematic details to our entire satisfaction.
Would definitely recommend First Floors.
